If you are visiting Budapest, either for a week or a weekend, you absolutely should not miss a breakfast that drags into lunch. Spending a few hours doing this (AKA brunching), is a romance within the romantic Budapest herself. Listed below are a few of my favorite places to have a coffee or tea and feast your eyes while people-watching and enjoying delicious food!
You can find all of my Budapest recommendations here.
You can find my story, Budapest: The City of Romance and resilience here.
VIVINA’S Café & Roastery
Budapest, Szerb u. 17-19, 1056
I have to begin this list with VIVINA’S Café & Roastery. If I have to recommend only one restaurant (for brunch or otherwise) in the entirety of Budapest, it’s VIVINA’S. The ambience, food, staff, and coffee are spectacular. Come here on a sunny day to sit outside and enjoy the city. Anything you get to eat will be amazing, I enjoy the signature peach toast with a cortado.

Apricot Coffee
Budapest, Bródy Sándor u. 17, 1088
Small and intimate, this is another great place to sit outside and simply enjoy the day. They have food that falls closer to a snack than a meal, like cookies and sandwiches, but it’s still a great place to have a small brunch. Here, you can find balanced coffee and the best carrot cake in BP.

Caphe by Hai Nam
Budapest, Bartók Béla út 35, 1114
If you find yourself in Buda… don’t miss this Vietnamese brunch spot. Caphe is normally packed, but if you manage to get a table outside or inside, you’re in for a feast. Just think (or drool and then think) of a huge pork belly bahn mi with Vietnamese coffee.
9BAR
If you want a great view of the Basilica, great coffee/tea, and a nice snack (I recommend the carrot cake here too), 9BAR is the place for you. The baristas are genuine and will happily recommend something if you are unsure what to get. One thing to be aware of – you need to make it here earlier in the day if you want to eat as they usually sell out of their food by the afternoon.

arán bakery budapest
Budapest, Wesselényi utca 23, 1077
Somewhat of an honorable mention, as arán is not somewhere you can sit down and brunch for hours (they do have seating, but it’s sparse). That being said, it is the best bakery in BP (p.s. they have two locations), and a great place to enjoy delicious pastries, sourdough bread, sandwiches, and coffee. I always get a loaf of sourdough bread and pain au chocolat… if they have any left after the morning. I recommend taking a few goodies from arán and enjoying them at Erzsébet tér.
Kelet Kávézó és Galéria
Budapest, Bartók Béla út 29, 1114
Another amazing spot in Buda, come here if you want to be surrounded by books and delicious smells. The food is on another level, and you can come here for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or even dinner. I recommend Harira (Moroccan lentil soup) and a coffee or fizzy beverage, but honestly, anything will be amazing here.

Pantry Brunch & Coffee
Pantry has a really, really cool concept (in addition to the great food and location). While small, it’s worth the wait. Here, you can pick and choose what you want to have for your breakfast spread. Trust me, you won’t leave here with any room in your stomach.
Flow Specialty Coffee Bar & Bistro
Budapest, Andrássy út 66, 1062
Flow is one of my favorite places in the city, either to eat, drink a coffee, or just read a book. They have a large vegan menu, which rotates weekly, an attestation to their commitment to fresh, quality food. The coffee and the atmosphere are unbeatable. Come here to escape a dreary day, or if you’re near Hősök tere.
